5 Reasons You’re Not Staying Consistent in Your Business (For Faith-Based Entrepreneurs)

Faithful Action

April 25, 2023

People say all the time that consistency is key, but to be blunt, I just don’t think this is the case simply because this saying doesn’t give you much context.

In my 6 years of being an entrepreneur, I have heard from a lot of people that the reason they think they’re not seeing success is because they’re not being consistent.

And while that might be true to a certain extent, it’s actually a bit deeper than that.

Because there’s a reason you’re not being consistent, and the reason behind your inconsistency is the real reason you are stuck and not seeing results.

Also, I have to mention that another reason I just don’t agree with the saying, “consistency is key,” is because I have seen so many people be “consistent” with posting on social media for months, or even years, and they still don’t have anything to show for it.

I MEAN…

If that doesn’t show you that consistency isn’t the key, I don’t know what does. 🤪

Obviously, it’s important to stay consistent, but I don’t think this black and white view of being consistent or inconsistent is helping anyone.

Which is why it’s important we uncover the real reason you’re not being consistent in your business… and also how to change that STAT.

What You Will Learn:

  • 5 reasons you’re not being consistent in your business
  • How self-sabotage can sneak in and cause inconsistency in your business
  • The one thing you’re focusing on that’s keeping you from moving forward
  • How to identify negative thoughts that cause inconsistency in your business
  • How you can shift your mindset to take bold action & steward your role as a faith-fueled CEO well

I have gone through my fair share of inconsistency and my fair share of experiencing waves of inconsistency. And the thing that I found is that there is always a reason for inconsistency.

Makes sense, right?! There is a REASON for it!

That said, I’m sharing 5 main reasons you may not be being consistent in your business, but I also just want you to know that I have also experienced these things in one way or another.

I know how much it can hold you back if you don’t first identify what is going on.

Because I mean… That’s the very first step to take if you want to change things. 😉

Reason #1 – You don’t have clarity on what you’re sharing or offering the world

It’s very, very possible that a big reason you may not be consistent in your business is simply that you are not crystal clear on what your message is, or crystal clear on the problem you’re solving for your audience.

There are multiple things that we need clarity on if we’re going to continue being consistent.

And when it comes to clarity, this could look like one of two things.

Either you don’t have clarity, but you’re being consistent, and nothing’s actually happening.

Or you don’t have clarity, and because you don’t have clarity, you are feeling like you can’t move forward and you don’t know what to put out there.

Clarity is a really big topic to cover, so I want to redirect you to a couple of podcast episodes I have done in the past that I think you should go back and listen to.

If you are feeling like you don’t have complete clarity or perhaps this might be a reason you’re not being consistent I recommend tuning into these two episodes.

Episode 7: How to Stand Out in Your Industry as a Christian Entrepreneur

Episode 32: 4 Steps to Book Out Your Coaching Business in 30 Days or Less (For New & Seasoned Coaches)

A really big topic here that I cover in both of these episodes is clarity, so please make sure to go listen to episode 7 and episode 32 if you are experiencing a lack of clarity.

Also, a fun little fact…

Episode 32 is my most downloaded episode of all time, so I’d say it’s pretty great. 😉

Reason #2 – You are experiencing resistance & are doubting your calling because you believe it shouldn’t feel this hard if you’re called to it by God

This is a big one as well, and if you resonate with this, please send me a DM on Instagram. My handle is @hannahbrindley.

If you have ever struggled with resistance in creation or being disciplined in your work or calling from the Lord, I just want you to know that you are NOT alone by any means.

Resistance is something that comes up a LOT, and despite what you might think, resistance does not always mean that you should stop or change direction. It actually might mean that you’re on the right path. If you are in a season of resistance, I want to empower you to tune into Episode 66 of the podcast!

Episode 66: 3 Ways I Overcome Resistance So I Remain Disciplined in My Faith-Based Business

I know that resistance can get REALLY hard to battle, and can come up often… and even DAILY!

At least it happens daily for me lol (seriously, I have resistance ALL THE TIME when it comes to working on things in my business… even though I love it!)

But I’ve realized that it’s my flesh wanting to stay comfortable and keep me stuck.

And y’all…

That’s self-sabotage.

That said, if self-sabotage is something you are struggling with, you NEED to go listen to episode two of the podcast (linked below)!

Episode 2: 5 Reasons You Might Be Self-Sabataging and How to Biblically Stop It

This is one of my favorite episodes of all time, and a listener favorite!

Reason #3 – You keep focusing on quick validation & vanity metrics

If this is you, this tells me a couple of things you may be wanting.

You are wanting validation, a dopamine hit, to feel seen, to feel heard, & instant gratification.

There is nothing wrong with things performing really well, right? But it’s important for us to look at this information as data.

If something doesn’t perform well, it’s important to understand why that is.

That said, it’s important to make sure we’re not taking this personally and connecting this with our worth and our identity. When you do that, you will get discouraged and you will wind up not being consistent.

You are in this for a mission.

You’re not in this just so you can post something and feel good about yourself because a bunch of people liked it.

And if that’s the case, you’re in this for the wrong reason.

It’s really important to check your heart here. What’s your heart posture? What are your true intentions here?

And if you are feeling this way, then I encourage you to spend some time with our  Heavenly Father and really understand where your identity is and where your worth is.

Because you are worthy, not because of what you’ve done, but because Jesus made you worthy, and you do not need a bunch of likes on your Instagram post to tell you that Jesus loves you and He is worthy.

That is what you need to remember, and in terms of building a business, He gave you a mission. That doesn’t mean everybody’s going to like it, and that doesn’t mean people are going to pay attention to it. Your mission might literally be to help one person and impact one person.

And so my question to you is, if that’s the case… Is that enough for you?

Is the mission God gave you enough for you? Would you be okay if you didn’t have that instant gratification? Would you still be okay with pursuing the mission if that wasn’t there, knowing that the Lord gave it to you?

Reason #4 – You don’t believe the result you’re looking for is possible for you

If you don’t believe it’s possible, you are subconsciously going to take the action that will result in this belief.

Remember, I said SUBCONSCIOUSLY. You may not even realize the thoughts you are thinking. But if you take a look at how you’re feeling about a situation, you can often identify the thought.

For example, you don’t want to create content today because the last time you did, you felt disappointed that no one seemed to care what you were putting out there, and you realize that this feeling of disappointment came from the thought that no one cares. Then that actually reveals to you that you were focusing on quick validation, instant gratification, and vanity metrics.

Then you can actively work on changing your thoughts to something like… “It doesn’t matter if someone “likes” or “comments” on my post. I know that the right person is going to see, and I’m planting a seed for the mission God assigned to my life.”

My friend, Heather Shriver Burns says that, “Your feelings are like flashlights.”

Your thoughts create your feelings and your feelings create your actions!

Change your thoughts, and you’ll change your actions.

Reason #5 – You aren’t embodying your role as a Faith-Fueled CEO

A Faith-Fueled CEO stewards her business WELL. Because she knows it’s so much more than just a way to make some extra money. Her business and brand were assigned to her by God, and God-given assignments are a priority for her.

Are you actually making your business a priority?

Here’s an even better question…

Are you making the assignment God gave you a priority in your life? Because if you’re not, that’s a heart posture thing. This is something that you have got to go to the Lord about.

Are you going to actually live this out? Are you going to walk it out, or are you going to ignore the assignment God gave you?

What are you going to do? Are you going to treat it as a priority, or not?

Because at the end of the day, you have got to make time for your God-given assignment.

If you are wondering HOW to do this within your week, hop over to Episode 67 of th podcast.

Episode 67: How I Plan for a Productive Week as a Christian Entrepreneur

Next Steps

If you loved this blog post and you know you are being called to CEO by God, and you want to make sure you’re getting the support you need, you’re being held accountable to live out the call He’s placed on your heart, AND you want to do it fueled by your faith and not by your flesh…

Then I want to invite you to just join us inside of the Called to CEO Collective.

The Called to CEO Collective is a community-driven membership for faith-based business owners, creators, dreamers, and leaders who know it’s time to take bold and obedient action on their God-given callings and ultimately steward their roles as Faith-Fueled CEOs.

I have absolutely no doubt it is what you’ve been praying for!

Why?! Because I’ve been praying for something like this for an awfully long time.

This membership has been totally designed by the Holy Spirit to help you cultivate a deeper relationship with the Lord. We will also go deeper on topics and faith, life, and business that you learn about because honestly, it’s time to say goodbye to overconsumption and say hello to implementation.

And it is also time to work from a place of overflow from the Holy Spirit versus overwhelm and stress. And it’s also time to finally overcome these spiritual battles against the enemy that has been keeping you stuck in your life.

Basically, it is a faith-based, community-driven membership where we go deeper on topics in faith, life, and business.

And the thing is, I have known for a really long time that business owners, creators, and leaders really need a place to process and share what they’re going through in their life and business in a safe space to receive feedback, support, and accountability…

All without the high ticket price point.

The Lord has just pressed this on my heart for a really long time and I know you’re probably wondering…

Is there any coaching involved?

Absolutely, there is coaching involved.

Not only will you be with other like-minded individuals, but you’ll have an experienced and Certified Life Coach and Faith-Fueled Business Mentor at your fingertips (that’s me, btw lol)… You will have a group of other talented individuals there to support you too!

And yes, we are going to go deeper on topics together, but I’m also here to help you grow your business or whatever God-given call you have right now. You can get coached by posting inside the community or on our live coaching calls happening twice a month.

That said, if you want to learn all the nitty gritty details or go ahead and join us at the current rate, you can do so by heading to www.hannahbrindley.com/membership
