3 Commonly Ignored “Secrets” to Scaling Your Business

Faithful Action

May 17, 2022

In this episode, I am running through the 3 commonly ignored “secrets” to scaling your business.

These 3 things I’m about to share are crucial to understand in your mind, but also implement in your business via action if you are desiring to scale… but most people ignore them.

Quite frankly, I don’t want you to be that person that ignores them anymore. I want you to fully own this and embody this as the Queen you are in Christ.

Let’s dive in.

Over the last couple of months, I’ve been noticing similar topics and themes that pop up when I’m talking with my clients.

These three things I’m about to share with you are three of the themes that keep coming up with my clients and because of that, I truly believe it’s these three things that are the most commonly ignored “secrets” to scaling your business.

It’s like they’ve heard it before and they think they’ve done it, or they just don’t believe it for whatever reason, or they keep getting caught up in perfectionism. But whatever the case may be, I am noticing these three things are the most common things that are ignored, and I wholeheartedly believe it’s important to stop ignoring them if you want to scale your business.

Secret number one…

You must decide it’s going to work.

I basically feel the eye rolls happening right now, but hear me out. When you know without a doubt that something is just done, that something is divinely orchestrated, and that you are actually fulfilling the calling that the Lord is leading you to, you are going to take action so much differently than you would if you have not decided.

And even if you think you have decided, I really just want you to ask yourself, “How many times have I let yourself believe the doubt that the enemy places in my mind? How many times have I taken action based on that doubt?”

Do you take action based on the doubt that the enemy is giving you, or on the decision that the Lord is calling you to make?

Because the way that you show up is going to be different. And the thing is–you can actually be going through the motions and doing all the right things, but still have not made the decision that this is going to work, and you just show up differently than you would if you did fully believe that and made the choice to believe that.

And then throw in all of these shiny objects that look like amazing opportunities from where you are right now. You’re lusting after them because you haven’t fully decided that what you’re doing right now is going to work. You are still thinking about the next thing.

But what if you reframed that and truly decided that this was it? And if it had to work, how would you show up now?

I do have to put a disclaimer here because there will be times when the Lord truly is calling you to a different path and you do need to make that shift. But what I’m saying is that when you know in your gut, and when you feel that intuitive instinct from the Holy Spirit, believe that, and then decide it’s going to work now.

Another little disclaimer here–the Lord may be using your business for something more than just revenue. “Success” does not always equal revenue in the Lord’s eyes.

And so while yes, businesses need revenue and sales, I did want to go ahead and just say sometimes that success does not equal revenue to the Lord. It equals souls. So even if your business isn’t “successful” by revenue yet does not mean it’s not worth it or that it’s not fulfilling its purpose. But it’s also important to remember that the Lord is the ultimate provider. So, you have to trust Him. You have to trust Him and decide that this is the route for you. No matter what it looks like in this physical world. There could be so much going on in the spiritual realm that you are a vessel for, so hold the faith and make the decision that this is it.

Stop looking at shiny objects because if you are lusting after something when the Lord has specifically called you to this. And again, disclaimer, you have to be the one to know, and to understand what the Lord is calling you to. But when you know, (because I bet you probably do know right now) what you’re being called to, stop ignoring it.

Make the decision. If you need to make a pivot, make the pivot, and decide it’s going to work. If that is what He is calling you to, whatever you do, make the call and then decide it is going to work because you believe that.

Secret number two…

Focus on one thing.

Now I know all of you are probably like, “Ooh, I’m multi-passionate, can’t do that.”

Just because you are multi-passionate does not mean you cannot focus on one thing. And the good news is, I actually have an episode dedicated to helping you niche down as a multi-passionate entrepreneur.

It is episode three, so make sure you go back and listen to that if you consider yourself a multi-passionate entrepreneur, or you have a hard time attracting clients to you, or perhaps you’re having a hard time niching down. I basically go over why you’re not attracting clients to you online and how to do it as a multi-passionate entrepreneur.

Keep in mind that I’m not saying you can’t have multiple things. So for example, I have my coaching business, but I am also affiliated with some different companies for affiliate marketing, but that’s not my focus.

My focus is my one thing. My focus is my brand and my focus for this season is scaling Faith Fueled Coach Academy. And in case you don’t know the story about how FCA was developed,I have been building FCA since February of 2021. It is currently May of 2022, and it is still my one focus and is still my one thing.

And because of that, my business is scaling.

Because what happens is that when you split your focus, you are literally splitting your energy.

And what happens here is that if all of your energy is being split in 2, 3, 4, 5 different directions, how are any of them going to produce? It’s just not going to work.

So to demonstrate this, I want to give you a visual.

I want you to imagine that you are at the starting line of a race. You’re at the starting line and then there’s a finish line off in the distance. But let’s say you’ve got five cars that you have to fuel with gasoline in order for them to hit the finish line.

And let’s just pretend you only have one of those gas buckets. And in this case, this gas bucket represents your energy while the cars represent the different offers or projects or opportunities you’re pursuing. And so that being said, you’re going to be splitting your energy five different ways. So let’s go ahead and split the gas in five different ways because each car gets a fifth of what’s in the gas bucket.

And so what’s going to happen is that none of them are going to make it to the finish line in this case. They’re going to run out of gas before they get there. So then you’re going to have to go and refill the energy again and again, and then you’re going to have to start over because you didn’t realize that you are on a hill and the cars are actually starting to roll backwards.

And so you keep trying to refuel them again and again, and again. But none of them are making it to the finish line because they don’t have the fuel that they need to make it. The different projects that you’re trying to work on don’t have the focus they need in order to produce fruit. Focus on the one thing the Lord has called you to and be okay with letting the other things go or fall behind because you’re focused on the one.

Again, that doesn’t mean you have to let it go completely, but at least let this one thing gain some momentum before you take away the energy that you’re using to put into that into something else. Let the one thing gain momentum first and then add something on, then continue to build and to scale upon that–upon that foundation.

I also want you to think about this with everything in your life, and in your business. This isn’t just the case for offers or products you’re selling. I also recommend focusing on one social media platform before you add on something else or one long form content platform, like a podcast, YouTube or blog before you add on something else.

Or investing in one mentor before you go and listen to a ton of different podcasts and audiobooks, and download all the freebies and challenges of multiple mentors telling you different things to do. That’s confusing and overwhelming, and you’re going to wind up duct taping your business together because…

You’re not focused.

But let’s look at our example again.

If you take the gas bucket and you fill the entire car, aka the entire project or opportunity with that energy, you’re going to make it up the hill. You’re going to make it to the finish line because you’ve put all of your focus and all of your energy into that one thing instead of letting your focus be split.

Secret number three…

Enjoy the journey and recognize that there actually is no destination.

Entrepreneurship really, truly is a journey. And I feel like I hear people say all the time that running a business is like a marathon, not a sprint. But that’s just not true because entrepreneurship is neither a marathon nor a sprint because there is no destination.

When you cross this imaginary finish line of whatever goal or thing you’re set out to achieve, you’re going to keep going. There’s always going to be another finish line, because you’re never truly finished until the Lord calls you home.

I want you to remember to stop getting so caught up in the finish line because you’re not going to be finished unless you call it quits. And if I’m being totally honest, this was a really hard lesson for me.

I have heard the phrase, “enjoy the journey, not the destination,” for as long as I can remember.

I always felt like I understood that and knew what it meant, but this is what I mean when I say that you have probably already heard these things and think you understand them, but you’re not truly living the way you would if you did understand them.

For a really long time, I chased those $10K months and those titles, like “six figure business owner” and the flashy things that really don’t matter. But it mattered to me at the time because that was my finish line.

I just wanted to achieve those things. But when I did actually achieve them, I wasn’t any happier. It didn’t feel like I thought it was going to feel–it didn’t fuel me. It didn’t give me more motivation. And I realized that that’s not what I wanted to chase anymore. I didn’t want to chase these accolades or achievements.

And another really big thing that I realized during this time is that just because I made it to the finish line doesn’t mean I stop–I still had a business to run. And with that comes more to do. The to-do list does not disappear when you hit the finish line because there is no finish line. You just keep going.

Your business continues to grow and it continues to evolve and it continues to need your attention. And it continues to need different things depending on where you are in your business and learning that now is so important because you’re going to truly enjoy where you are.

You’re going to enjoy the journey of entrepreneurship and the journey of building your business because your business will always be building.

It will always be growing. There is not going to be a finish line. And so my point here is that it’s so important to celebrate every single step of the way–not just these achievements. But to truly celebrate and to be truly content and joyful no matter where you are, because I do not want you to hit the finish line and have a rude awakening (like I did). I don’t want that for you.
