If you have ever struggled with resistance when it comes to creation or being disciplined in your work/calling from the Lord, I just want you to know that you are not alone by any means. Resistance is something that comes up a lot and despite what you might think, resistance does not always mean that you should stop or change direction.
It actually might mean that you’re on the right path. I’ve been experiencing resistance throughout my entire career as an entrepreneur, and from the outside looking in, it may seem like I don’t experience resistance as much as I did in the past. But that’s just not the case. I still experience a ton of resistance when it comes to recording podcast episodes, writing, and creating content that will move my business forward. Not because I don’t want to (I do), but because my flesh wants to take over and stay within my comfort zone.
That said, in this blog post, you will learn…
- 3 ways I overcome resistance so I can remain disciplined and steward my role as a Faith-Fueled CEO
- How to create a battle plan to crush resistance
- The one activity I started implementing that has helped me overcome resistance I experience by 10-fold (even though I didn’t know that’s what I was doing)
- How you can bring more fun and excitement into your business
Here’s the tea.
When I first started my online business, I experienced a ton of resistance. I mean, I still experience resistance, but back then, I didn’t know how to navigate it.
I remember being so excited and having this huge vision and list of things that I wanted to do and wanted to accomplish, but since I had so much resistance around them, I wound up not doing them at all.
I thought something was wrong with me.
I wondered, “Why did I have this feeling that I needed to do this thing, but then I just couldn’t get myself to do the thing?”
I just felt like something was wrong.
I loved planners and making all these plans and goal setting and all of that, but, my follow through on the plan never really panned out.
Instead, I ended up not doing the thing. I wasn’t disciplined. I had so much resistance around it, and again, that just made me feel like something was wrong with me because how could I experience all this resistance if this is what I’m meant to do, and if I’m being called by God to do this?
I just want to be fully transparent with you here when I say that I still experience resistance. I still experience the feeling of not wanting to do the thing. I still experience that, but now I’ve actually learned how to navigate it, and now I’ve learned that nothing is wrong with me. It is simply my flesh not wanting to get out of my comfort zone.
My flesh is wanting to stay safe.
Here’s the thing.
If you wanna learn more about self-sabotaging tendencies and how to navigate them biblically, then I highly recommend tuning into episode two of this show. I walk through how to navigate your comfort zones and why that is a self-sabotaging tendency.
I dealt with self-sabotaging tendencies when I first started, and just because you experience resistance does not mean that you aren’t meant to pursue the calling.
Nothing is wrong with you if you are experiencing that resistance. I have experienced it so many times, which is exactly why I’m sharing this episode with you today.
Even though I still experience the same level of resistance than I did when I first started, what has changed?
Let’s get into it.
Tip #1 – Incorporate Something Fun & Childlike
Incorporate something fun and childlike before you do whatever it is you’re having resistance around.
Let me explain lol.
I was actually on a coaching call with a client of mine the other day and they asked me how they can overcome resistance when it comes to creation, and I told them that I honestly never feel like recording podcast episodes.
Like… ever lol.
I just don’t.
I love podcasting so much, but I just never FEEL like doing it.
And I know you’re probably thinking, “Well, how do you love it if you never feel like doing it?”
Look, it’s a thing, okay? Lol.
And I do think that comes from self-sabotage and some spiritual warfare, of course.
But that said, now that you know I never feel like putting together a podcast episode, what have I done to navigate this?
The truth is, what I’m about to tell you that I do, I initially had no idea it was going to help me combat resistance, but it has and it has been such a game-changer for me.
And this is something I had never told anyone before I told my client, but now I’m telling you. I did tell my broadcast channel on Instagram as well.
But basically, because I always experience resistance before I start recording myself talking on the podcast, I started to just get myself in the mood by just hitting record and pretending like I am a professional singer and a music studio recording my latest album, and I usually will sing ‘Since U Been Gone’ by Kelly Clarkson or ‘Holding Out for a Hero’ by Frou Frou,.
I sing it as loud as I possibly can, and I do this for about 15 minutes, and I literally record myself on the platform I use to record my podcast, which is Audacity, in case you were wondering. I’ve got my headphones, my mic, and I’m in the zone, and it’s just so much fun.
Basically. I just have fun before I hit record and start talking to you. And the thing is, I used to pretend I was a singer when I was a kid and I just went back to that. Because I just remember putting headphones on, locking myself in the bathroom, dancing in front of the mirror, listening to music and just pretending I was in a music video.
I just remember doing that, and I guess I just went back to that. But all that to say, it’s worked like a charm. Like every time I do it, I’m ready to hit record and get going. It just really lightens my energy and the whole experience.
If you are dealing with any sort of resistance, try to incorporate more fun just into the whole experience.
I think you will just find it should just be so much more pleasurable and you’ll be excited to do it.
Tip #2 – Implement a Battle Plan
Now, the second thing I’m going to share with you is to implement a battle plan.
If you are a student of mine, or inside the Called to CEO Collective, which is a brand new membership that you should join by the way, then you are already familiar with Battle Plans.
Here’s the thing…
Every day, we are walking into a spiritual war zone. Since this is the case, we need to get ahead and have a Strategic Battle Plan prepared for the battles we may face each day.
For example, you may want to have a battle plan for when you’re feeling anxious, lazy, angry, impatient, or stuck.
And in this case, if you are feeling resistance toward being disciplined on your God-given call.
Now… What does this consist of?
Usually, a Strategic Battle Plan for each scenario will consist of a trigger word, a worship song, a battle verse, a proclamation declaration, and a prayer statement.
But as I said, you can learn all about what that consists of and looks like when you’re inside the membership.
But to keep this simple, and I’m just being honest with you, I will usually just start singing a worship song out loud. And for me, it’s usually an old hymn. Right now, I’m loving Lily of the Valley.
After that, I will open up my Bible and I will just read scripture.
As I said, if you have a Strategic Battle Plan, you may have a very specific verse or passage you want to read or just proclaim out loud. But sometimes, I just like to open it up and read. And then from there, I will pray and ask God to give me supernatural strength, focus, energy, and discipline.
I will also usually proclaim Philippians 4:13. It says…
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
I will just say this over, and over and over again. I will say it out loud and honestly, this helps me so much. It helps me get out of my head because I’m getting into the word of God.
This paired with bringing fun into the mix is just a game changer.
Tip #3 – Give Yourself a Time Limit
I am sure you have probably heard of this before, and for good reason, because it works if you do it and you take it seriously.
Give yourself a time limit on how long a certain task or activity should take, and then reward yourself when you complete it in time.
The key here is that you really want to challenge yourself with this time limit. You don’t want to give yourself so much time that you wind up just distracting yourself and not doing it.
You want it to be a time limit, but you will have to put away distractions so you can stay focused. When you do this, you will get so much done.
As for a reward, let it be something that you want to do. Maybe your reward is to go to Starbucks and get your favorite drink. Maybe it’s that you go get to see your best friend later, or get your nails done that day.
And if you don’t finish it, you don’t get your nails done, or you don’t get your favorite drink… Make it a game. It can be fun.
When you combine all of these three tips, oh my goodness, you’ll be a powerhouse. I do not doubt it.
All of that being said, if you loved this episode and you know you are being called to steward your role as a Faith-Fueled CEO, head below to next steps & learn about how YOU can join the Called to CEO Collective!
